Literature Text
a frosty chill nips
at our noses as we
weave our way through
the falling snow,
the smile on your
rosy lips lighting the
dreary winter landscape
in a merry glow.
As your gloved hands hold me
tight against your chest
and your chin finds its place
upon my shoulder,
the towering evergreens
around us sigh;
their breath enveloping us in
a peaceful calm that
settles in my bones.
the silent night around us
sings as we stand together
in perfect harmony
marveling at the
winter wonderland before us;
these ancient laurels watch
as an all too familiar
magic unfolds—
a new love blossoming
amidst winter’s
heavy arms.

My head above water
footprints in a parking lot
caffeine highs and marijuana lows

sometimes I guess that's just how it goes

Sink or swim
He stood on the dock
One foot reluctantly planted
The other standing at the ready
Like that fleeting moment
Suspended in mid-air
Gleefully anticipating the water on your skin
Yet apprehensive of those undiscovered depths
Which have yet to be kissed by sunlight
She dove in head-fist
Through the reeds and the icy darkness
And watched from below
As the light fragmented
Along the rippled surface
How stunning it was
Even in the deepest and feared unknown
Especially there.
In the light and in the dark
There was only him
He watched as she held her breath
Shackled by his own mind
Wanting for that planted foot
To be freed from its hesitations

For Full-of-Lit's Winter Holiday Contest and Bright-Poets' Christmas Contest. The theme for this poem was inspired by the classic Christmas scent of pine. I really wanted to make this a whimsical but nostalgic piece because this is one of my favorite scents and I wanted this to represent how this smell makes me feel.
