you embedded yourself within
the very fabric of my existence,
right down to the very atoms
that collide within
my quivering bones—
and yet my heart sighs heavily
as it realizes that even in
your finite spaces
I am irrevocably
all alone.

I grow distraught at the thought
that my words will turn cloy
under the weight of the waterfall
imbued with my saccharine sentences;
as my feelings cascade like a velveteen curtain,
the ineffable emotions cover you like a coat-
they continue to fervently flow,
and become foamy pearls and pebbles
pooling by your feet
I know these waves of water
won’t steal the breath from your lungs,
but rather fill the riverine veins
traveling towards the tributary
of your awaiting heart,
and for this-
I’d rather drown you in affection,
than have a drought.

i hope the faith
you never found in me
or in your chest
comes from
breaths of fresh air
in lungs plucked
and neatly tucked

of ribs.
but until then,
i don't have any idea
what to say,
and the easiest way
to answer questions
is to pretend to know,
so i guess i tripped
to make the fall shorter
because standing tall
was such a tall order.
maybe the best way
to live is to pretend
and not to show
so that when the time comes
you're a surprise
with no expectations
